Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 2, 2026
Bear Logic LLC ("Bear Logic," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Yak mobile application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how Yak collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you create an account, we may collect your name, email address, and a user identifier associated with your account.
Profile and user content. You may choose to upload a profile photo and photos related to climbs or trip reports. You may also submit notes, route information, and other content within the app.
Activity and app usage. We collect information about how you use the Service, such as planned or completed climbs, quest progress, product interactions (for example, sign-in, account creation, and onboarding steps), and support messages you send us.
Location. If you enable location services, we may collect precise or approximate location data to provide mapping, navigation, and related features.
Device information. We may collect device identifiers, operating system version, app version, and similar technical data needed to operate the Service, deliver push notifications, maintain security, and measure performance.
Push notifications. If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can send alerts such as trip reminders or activity on content you follow.
2. How We Use Information
We use collected information to provide and maintain the Service, personalize your experience, deliver maps and tracking features, send notifications you request, improve features, communicate with users, measure app performance, understand how the Service is used, support advertising and marketing measurement (including campaign attribution), ensure security, prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, and comply with legal obligations.
3. Third-Party Service Providers
Yak does not sell personal information. We use trusted service providers that process information on our behalf to operate the Service, including:
Supabase — account authentication, database hosting, and storage for app data.
Mapbox — map tiles and location-based mapping features. Map requests may include approximate location and device or network information needed to load maps.
Meta (Facebook) — app analytics and advertising measurement. Meta may receive identifiers such as your user ID, device identifiers, and information about app events (for example, account registration, sign-in, and onboarding completion) to help us understand installs, usage, and the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns.
We may also share information when required by law, to protect our rights, or in connection with a business transaction such as a merger or acquisition.
4. Tracking and Your Choices
On iOS, Yak may ask for permission to track your activity across other companies' apps and websites for advertising and analytics purposes, in accordance with Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. You can allow or deny this request. You can also change your choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
If you deny tracking permission, we and our partners may still collect limited analytics and device information as described in this policy for app functionality, security, and aggregated measurement where permitted by your device settings and applicable law.
You can manage location permissions and push notifications in your device settings. You may request account deletion as described below.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and fulfill legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by contacting [email protected], subject to applicable legal requirements.
6. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect information. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure.
7. Children's Privacy
The Service is not intended for children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
