NH 48

What are the NH 48?

The NH 48 are the New Hampshire mountains on the Appalachian Mountain Club's White Mountain Four Thousand Footer list. Each must be at least 4,000 feet high and rise at least 200 feet above the ridge connecting it to a higher neighbor. All 48 are in the White Mountain National Forest, from Mount Washington at 6,288 feet to Mount Tecumseh, traditionally listed at 4,003 feet. Lidar and ground surveys in 2019 measured Tecumseh just under 4,000 feet, but in 2021 the AMC voted to keep the list at 48 for now. The AMC Four Thousand Footer Club recognizes hikers who climb all of them.

Hiking the White Mountains

Most hikers finish the NH 48 over a few years of weekend trips, often starting with the Presidential Range and saving remote peaks like Owl's Head and Isolation for later.
